It’s great to be back at Cascade after our month of homeland furlough in Australia! Agnes and I enjoyed being with family and friends, and fulfilling a few official engagements as well. We basked in some nice weather, visited some new places, and saw our footy team win two games! What could be better than that! Thank you to everyone who took extra responsibility during our absence and especially to Lt. Colonel Peter Røed, Ben Lowell and Justyn Rees who were the preachers while we were gone.
We hope to see you at worship at 10.00 a.m. next Sunday when we will celebrate Pentecost and Mother’s Day.
Pray for Myanmar (Burma)
You may have heard the news of the devastating cyclone that has swept through the country of Myanmar. Latest estimates are that something like 20,000 people have been killed and many thousands more left homeless. The Salvation Army has been hit, with some properties damaged. Pray for the people and the government of Myanmar in these very difficult days.
Frontline – Membership/Soldiership Classes
We have been advertising this series for several weeks and have changed the start date to Wednesday, May 21, at the church. This is an opportunity to learn about The Salvation Army and what it means to become a member or soldier. The classes will run for four to five weeks.
Youth Leadership
I am pleased to announce that James Bush is appointed as High School Youth Leader on a part time basis for at least the next five months until the end of September.
Very soon we will be starting a search for a permanent Youth and Young Adults Pastor to serve the needs of this church. This is a crucial role, and we are being careful to create the right profile of the person we need to build this important ministry. Please pray that God will show us who this person is to be.
Activities Coordinator – Centre of Hope
Another member of our church, Sarah Ivany, has accepted a summer position as Activities Coordinator at the Centre of Hope. This is a new position, and its purpose is to create a program of meaningful activities for the independent living clients and other clients who receive service from our Centre. Please pray for Sarah as she builds relationships and supports people who need to find interesting things to do with their lives.
Pentecost
Last Sunday we commenced a new preaching series on the Holy Spirit. The coming topics are:
May 11 The Spirit in Me
May 18 The Spirit’s Fullness
May 25 The Spirit’s Gifts
June 1 The Spirit in the Church
June 8 The Spirit in Mission
Join with me in praying that we will grow in our understanding of the Person and work of the Holy Spirit over these weeks. That we will each open our hearts and lives to what the Holy Spirit is longing to do in our lives, in our Church and in our Community.
