We are truly blessed to belong to a church such as ours! I thank God for each one of you and for your willingness to support our church and its ministries so wholeheartedly. That’s not to say that we can’t do better – that always should be our objective. Last Sunday, we talked about the special and individual gifts that the Holy Spirit gives us if we choose to believe and receive! Yes…I did say last Sunday that maybe this church is at 10% of its potential in terms of what we could achieve for the growth of the Kingdom. The Salvation Army was born out of a strong conviction given to William and Catherine Booth that people need to know God personally through the life and sacrifice of Jesus Christ. When we are all using our gifts to the fullest possible extent, we will see more and more people undergo a life transformation.
Partners in Mission
I found last Sunday’s Missionary Altar Service to be a very special experience, seeing people of all ages, from the seniors right down to the children, in heartfelt participation. The GOOD NEWS is that, at this present time, we have surpassed our $15,000 goal and have reached $20,000 …and still counting! Praise God! Thank you for your response. This money is much needed to support and expand the Army’s mission around the world and relieve the suffering that is so acute at the moment.
Future Direction
Thank you for your prayers in relation to the meeting of our Mission Board on Tuesday evening with Dr Bill Hoyt. It was a very positive experience and genuinely exciting as we considered the possible outcomes for our church if we follow through with this type of “health examination” and then apply the right prescription. We will keep you informed as soon as we make a firm decision on this process.
Chicken Catching
Even the terminology is new to me! A somewhat unique way of life, no doubt, for people who live in this part of the world. It is happening on Friday, June 6, and Agnes is already having nightmares about catching or even touching a live chicken! But you guys are all experienced and there are no such traumas for you. We need more people to assist in this exciting venture to help the young people raise some money for ministry. Click this link, or phone the office (604-556-7000) for details about where, when and how.
Volunteers
Next Monday evening is our special appreciation dinner for all church volunteers. We are truly blessed, as I said at the start of this letter, to have so many people at Cascade who give so much of their time and spiritual gifts to serve God and His church. This will be an occasion for celebration for sure!
Congregational Care
Each week, our pastoral care team meets on Monday morning to read through our rolls and mention those who we know are in special need of prayer and practical care and support. It is a ministry that we all need to be involved in, not just the Monday morning team. We are the body of Christ and we support each other by exercising our gifts. The most important gift we can give each other is love. Make it a habit to reach out regularly in love to a fellow church member and also to someone outside the church.
On Sunday we will be looking at how the Holy Spirit works in the Church to preserve our unity!
