IDENTITY – CHARACTER AND CALLING IN CHRIST
OUR VISION
Transformed People Loving God and Others
Who am I?
A part of our transformation is coming into an understanding of who we are in Christ (our identity) and what our calling is as followers of Christ, that is what God wants us to do. If we are unsure of either or both of our identity and calling in Jesus Christ it is unlikely that we will find much satisfaction in following Him.
As Christians belonging to Jesus Christ, we have a larger identity, a supernatural identity, an identity that is linked to eternity, that will not end when this life passes away. We are the children of God through Jesus Christ.
Question: Do you understand that you are a child of God? Are you aware of your supernatural identity in Jesus Christ?
1 John 3:1-3
I call myself a Christian because I discern in the New Testament a man whose life, death and central teaching penetrates more deeply into the mysterious reality of our condition that anyone or anything else has ever done. In the Gospels, Acts, and the Epistles, I find a total view of what man is, or what he could be and ought to be, which evokes a response in me such as no other writings have ever done. (Philip Toynbee)
Not only do we only know God through Jesus Christ, but we only know ourselves through Jesus Christ; we only know life and death through Jesus Christ. Apart from Jesus Christ we cannot know the meaning of our life or our death, of God or of ourselves. (Blaise Pascal)
Question: How do you react to Pascal’s belief that our life and our death are meaningless without Jesus Christ? Even God is meaningless if we do not know Jesus!
Who are we in community?
Firstly,
We are a part of the universal, worldwide family of God, the international body of Christ
Ephesians 2:19-22
Secondly, we are a part of the worldwide Salvation Army branch of the church of God
Thirdly,
We are also connected to this local church of The Salvation Army known as Cascade Community Church.
